This weekend

Two great shows lined up at two distinctly different venues.

Saturday- What can I say about the Alley Bar that hasn't been said already? Downtown Montgomery hot spot full of character and class. Ultra friendly staff and a shot room you've got to see to believe. WE LOVE THIS BAR! From their website:

"Ultra dynamic new bar in The ALLEY, downtown Montgomery's historic entertainment district.  Centrally located adjacent to the Renaissance Hotel and Spa, Embassy Suites, Montgomery Performing Arts Center, RiverWalk Stadium and Amphitheatre, The Montgomery Biscuits, the Harriott II riverboat, Historic Union Station and the Hank Williams Museum....AlleyBAR offers live music; over 50 different martinis to choose from, the world famous frozen shotroom, a variety of over 100 high gravity, imported and domestic beers and the undisputed "quirkiest" menu in town.  The venue also offers The Upper Room and BackALLEY  for private parties, groups, benefits and other special events.  Enter The ALLEY under the historic water tower on Tallapoosa Street and AlleyBAR is one hundred feet on the right.  Let the FUN begin !"

Sunday-Rock'n the Gardens at Aldridge Botanical Gardens
Outdoor show with food and drinks and all proceeds benefiting the Gardens. Also playing will be songer/songwriter Tim Brantley out of Georgia. The $25 ticket price includes drinks and bbq. This is a great chance to see us without the late night, smoky bar environment. From their website:

"Join us under the pavilion for an evening of good food and great music!
Tickets: $25 in advance/$30 at the gate
Proceeds benefit Aldridge Botanical Gardens
For more information or to prepay, call the Gardens at 682-8019, visit
Aldridge Botanical Gardens on Facebook.  Or, pay at the gate the evening of the event."

Metro Bistro

We had a great time at Metro Bistro last weekend. Poet, songwriter, and spoken word artist Sharrif Simmons was in the crowd getting into it and even joined us on stage. Here's some shots from the show.

Check out Sharrif's music here.

This weekend...

we'll be playing at Metro Bistro. If you've never been, it's a cool little spot on the North Side of downtown Birmingham. If you've ever wanted to hear us in a smaller intimate venue, this is the spot for you.

The entry from bhamdining.com:
"Lunch and dinner; bar stays open later, live music. This loft district watering hole is a "shabby-hip hangout," according to the Birmingham News' City Scene. Order-at-the-counter service of sandwiches, homemade soups and salads. Examples include The Raging Bull (roast beef, cheddar, pepper jack, jalapenos, lettuce, tomato, mayo and spicy mustard on old-fashioned white), The Farm (BLT with cheddar), and vegetarian options such as The Four Cheese and The Veterinarian (cucumbers, mushrooms, tomato, olives, onions, peppers, garlic, lettuce, swiss and cheddar on stone ground wheat). Also freshly sliced deli meat and cheese, homemade salads by the pound, and Big Sky breads.Outdoor sidewalk/patio dining. City Scene gave it good marks for the Brunswick stew turkey melt.."

Saturday recap...

Played Saturday night to a crowd of nearly 250. Always fun when girls dance on stage with GZ stickers on their chests. Innisfree is a great, happening joint and our last set tore the roof off. Jumping, fist pumping, Journey...great, friendly staff and crowd and more fun that you can stand.

Still plenty of chances to see us this month including our Halloween show at Courtyard 280. This is one not to miss, going to be a blast.

"Gentleman Zero rocks the Rogue Tavern", a review by Nicholas Milano

(reposted from facebook, w permission)

Having your face rocked off might sound like it would be bad.  I can tell you most assuredly, it is NOT.  Gentleman Zero is not just an average cover band.  Average can go fuck right off.  Gentleman Zero has a knack for wandering across genres like a blind man crossing the street in traffic.  This is part of the excitement of this band.  You never know exactly what is coming and when it hits you, whether or not you actually like the song, your feet are tapping in time with the beat and your head is nodding like a bobble-head doll.  Allow me to tell you a little bit about the band members themselves.

Nordan Dembitsky - Guitar, Backing Vocals

Where do I start?  Nordan, if you let him, will talk your ear off about music.  This is a good thing.  He is the consummate musician.  I always love watching him play because with Nordan, less truly is more.  Every now and then he will give you a glimpse of the 80's metal rocker wanting to break out of the shell when he shreds the solos.  What amazes me is how the guitar is part of him.  There is no awkward motion when he rips out the tunes.  He certainly does not overdo his performance, although even if he did start standing on a Marshall stack hammering on his whammy bar like an angry child in Wal-Mart not getting his way and his face looking like it was about to fall off from over-excitement, I would certainly not laugh at him(well, maybe a little).  His delivery is right on point every time, every song.

Heavy Metal John - Bass, Backing Vocals

One look at this man and you think, "He is going to play the fuck out of that bass." and you would be right my friends.  John, the self-proclaimed Starship Troopers trivia master, is phenomenal when he straps on that axe and starts slapping away at those four strings.  You would think that by the way he plays, there are at least 4 more strings on that bass.  Effortless and smooth in his delivery, John bangs out the rhythm with style and finesse.  Don't let the shaggy beard fool you, he has an extra pair of arms under there, much like Chuck Norris has another fist under his beard.  Don't let the nickname fool you either.  Heavy Metal John can bring...the...funk.

Brian King - Percussion (and the Freak Bitch Baby)

Small of frame and yet stout of heart, Brian calmly and seriously rocks out through his first set.  Perfection is the goal as his efforts emulate that of Neil Peart.  He would probably smack me for the lofty comparison but I think you all know what I mean.  He is the perfectionist because he absolutely wants the best show every time he gets on stage.  Unlike Neil however, Brian has a flair for the wit and through the show slowly relaxes into a very skilled and yet playful drummer.  Not hesitating to come from behind the kit to sing with the other 3 members during impromptu a cappella renditions of popular songs or to shout out that he is, in fact, a freak bitch baby during the bands version of Lady Gaga's Bad Romance.  The steady pumping rhythm from the drums drives the sound and drives you into your seat as he rocks through so many different styles of drumming you think you are at a percussion festival.

Chael Griffith - Vocals, Cross Promoter extraordinaire

The silky smooth stylings...wait..no, that isn't right..Ok, it is.  Chael is every bit the theatrical member of Gentleman Zero, and this, is a great thing.  As the vocalist, he brings the crowd into the frenzy of such songs as Cult of Personality, Bulls on Parade, and yes, even Bad Romance.  Although he eases into his element on stage much like Brian does, Chael belts out lyrics with a lot of passion and zeal.  Excitable is only one word to describe him.  Chael enjoys connecting with his audience and bringing them right into the show even between sets.  His energy is so contagious it makes me want to stage dive with him...although he hasn't done that yet.  I would suspect if I did anything like that people would tell me later "Sorry your Mom blew up Ricky...."

Gentleman Zero is definitely a show worth seeing.  You may not like all the songs they play, but you will love the way they deliver them to you.  Like a fat man loves the pizza guy...

Goings On

Big week, this one. Two shows this weekend and several new songs in addition to the six new ones we played at Courtyard Southside this past weekend.

We are extremely excited to be playing on of our favorite local venues again, Rogue Tavern. If you've never been, Rogue is a triple threat of a venue: fantastic food, an out of this world sound system, and it is a non-smoking establishment. If you've never been, do yourself a favor Friday and come check it out.

Saturday we'll be reunited with our party pals the Classic City Rollergirls. We met these girls at a bout after-party earlier this year in Birmingham and they drank and danced in front of the stage all night. We are stoked to be playing their "80's Prom" themed fundraiser and look forward to a great time. The venue is a spot called Little Kings. Their setup looks cool and I think I remember reading somewhere that that serve gummy bears in martini glasses instead of beer nuts. Killer! Hope to see you all in Athens!
